Understanding the Length of Parenting Coordinator Appointments
Hi, I’m Clint Hastings. I’m an attorney in Tulsa, Oklahoma, focusing on fathers’ rights. This is another video in my series on parenting coordinators. Today, we’re going to talk about how long a parenting coordinator will be appointed in your case, and how long it might last, and in another video, we’ll talk about what to do if you want to remove the parenting coordinator earlier than the duration they’re appointed for. So, in general, a parenting coordinator is appointed for however long the judge sees fit to appoint one, and if the parties agree how long, then that will control.
So, let’s say you say you want the parenting coordinator for a year’s time. That’s pretty common, is to just start out with a year. Sometimes, we do six months, but the problem with six months, the issue is, did you really give it a fair shake and give the parenting coordinator enough time to be effective in the case? So, generally, we start with a year and see how it goes.
Reappointment and Extension
You can also, there will be parts of the order appointing the parenting coordinator talking about, you know, re-upping the parenting coordinator, and so it can be automatically re-upped after a year if no objection is made, or it can be by reapplication to the court, or anything, really, that the parties agree upon can pretty much be worked out as far as how that works.
Next Steps and Removal
Alright, after this, I’m going to make a video talking about what to do to remove a parenting coordinator if they’re biased or just not working out or too expensive, or the parties just think they don’t need one anymore. Thanks.
