Proactive Communication is Key: Notify Attorney ASAP.
Hi, I’m Tulsa Dads.Law attorney Clint Hastings. I’m an attorney here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I focus on father’s rights.
If you realize you’re going to be late for court, take action immediately. Call your attorney as soon as possible—text, email, or contact their office so they can inform the court. When attorneys are left waiting without an update, the judge may assume you’ve simply blown off your hearing, which can hurt your case.
Immediate Action is Key
If you can’t reach your attorney, try calling the judge’s clerk. The courthouse may have a listed number, and some voicemail systems even provide an email address for contacting the clerk directly. Leaving a message or email shows you made an effort to notify the court.
I’ve seen too many cases where a judge patiently waits 15–20 minutes, and just as we decide how to proceed, the client casually strolls in—having made no effort to call. Even if there’s no major incident causing your delay, always notify someone. It’s a bad look to appear careless about your court appearance.
Preventative Measures
Of course, the best plan is to arrive early, not just on time. If you have questions, reach out to me, Clint Hastings, Tulsa Dads.Law attorney, for a consultation—we’re here to help.
