You Cannot Interfere but You Are Entitled to Information
Video Transcribed: What kind of information are you entitled to as a non-custodial parent? My name is Brian L. Jackson. I am a Tulsa dad’s rights attorney here with Dads.Law where fathers are not disposable. And I want to talk to you guys today about what kind of information you can get about your child if you are not the custodial parent.
Well, to start with, by statute you are always entitled to their educational records. You are always entitled to their medical records and to know what’s going on in those two areas. If they’re enrolled in extracurriculars, you are entitled to that information by statute. You’re entitled to information about where they attend church and what the religious training is.
Now, if you’re non-custodial, you don’t get to interfere in that. That’s going to be up to the custodial parent to make those decisions. But you still get to know what’s going on. You still get to see their grades, you still get to see their medical records, you still get to find out when their games are and how that’s going and whether they’re winning or losing.
You still get to find out when they’re going to go to church, where they’re going to go to church, and what their religious training’s going to be. And if they have any major events there, you have a right to know about those things. And I would encourage you guys to definitely exercise and enforce those rights because the last thing you want is a custodial parent to meet some new guy and decide that he’s a better dad than you are and try to cut you out in the form of a non-consent adoption.
So stay on top of that because you have a right to know. And if you have any questions about that or if she’s not honoring those rights, you have options. You can contact an Oklahoma family court lawyer. Go to dads.law for fathers are not disposable.
