How the Parenting Coordinator is Appointed: A Step-by-Step Guide for Parents
Hi, my name is Clint Hastings. I’m an Tulsa fathers’ rights attorney, and I focus on fathers’ rights. Today I’m continuing the series of videos on parenting coordinators. Last time we talked about how a parenting coordinator essentially helps the parties communicate about the child visitation, and other issues that may come up and helps them decide certain matters. And in fact, they can have the power to decide some certain matters if appointed to do so.
So today we’re going to talk about how the parenting coordinator gets appointed in your case. So either party can make a motion to the court to get a parenting coordinator, and if you agree, then it’ll be appointed. However, if you don’t agree, the court can still appoint a parenting coordinator in your case, but certain findings have to be met. It has to be that the court finds that the parties are in high conflict.
High Conflict Cases and Parenting Coordinators
In other words, a high conflict case where the parties are having a lot of trouble communicating and parenting together. The high conflict definition, let’s just look at the statute to see if you would qualify. A high conflict case means that the parties demonstrate a pattern of ongoing litigation, anger and distrust, verbal abuse, physical aggression or threats of physical aggression, difficulty in communicating and cooperating, and conditions that the court may use in its discretion where you may need it for your case.
That’s the definition and believe me, you may find those definitions fit in your case, and they do fit in a lot of cases. But otherwise, if you don’t have those, you can still do it by agreement, but if you have those conditions, the court may appoint it for you. All right, we’re going to look at this more in depth in our next video on parenting coordinator. Please check that out and thanks for listening.
