Strategies for Managing Overuse of Parenting Coordinator Services
Hi, I’m Clint Hastings. I’m an Tulsa fathers’ rights attorney. Today is a video continuing in the series of Parenting Coordinators. How do you use them, how are they appointed, how are the fees split, when can they be removed, and how may they help in your case? So, we discussed who pays for the Parenting Coordinator and how the fees are split in the last video.
Right now, I want to talk to you about what happens if one party, presumably your wife or ex-girlfriend, is overusing the Parenting Coordinator and calling a meeting or calling for advice or emails with the Parenting Coordinator to address every little issue. Let’s say you didn’t return the kid’s t-shirt. She calls up the Parenting Coordinator and wants a meeting over it. She says, you know, you were two minutes late and wants a meeting over it. She says that, you know, she didn’t get her Tupperware back and she wants to call the Parenting Coordinator and it costs way more than the Tupperware was ever worth to start with.
How to Address Overuse of the Parenting Coordinator
When there’s a pattern like this, the Parenting Coordinator can make a report to the court that the fees should be reallocated to account for that overuse of the Parenting Coordinator and make her shoulder more of the burden. This is very helpful and it also creates a record for the court, you know, in your case, presuming it’s not after the decree. Sometimes this will be after the decree you’re using a Parenting Coordinator and sometimes during the case itself before the final decree is issued. But it creates a record and a report of this overuse and frivolousness of issues that one party is driving the case with.
