Key Strategies for Effectively Preparing for Mediation
Hi, I’m attorney Clint Hastings. I’m a lawyer here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I focus on father’s rights. In this video, I’m going to talk about how to prepare for a mediation. Now, there’s some other videos I’ve done about specifics of what a mediation is and what it accomplishes. This is a short video talking about the main point of preparing for the mediation.
This is important because if you don’t prepare for the mediation, it’s okay. You can go into a mediation without a game plan, with some loose thoughts of what you may or may not agree to, and you’re just wanting to see what the other side might agree to, but that’s a waste of time and money. You’re paying the mediator, you’re paying the lawyer to be there with you, and it doesn’t do any good if you spend an hour and a half of the mediation going through basics of what happened and why you think what you think and why you want what you want, but you haven’t really prepared to get to the heart of the matter, the bottom line of what your offer is and what your bottom line might be in preparation, anticipating their counter offers. So, that’s what’s important, and you will discuss with your attorney what those important things are, the absolute things you need to have in your final order, or what you can live with, what you can live without, and so that’s the main thing, and it’s important.
