Do You Get Credit for Money Paid to Your Ex for Your Stepchild?
Do you get credit for money paid to your ex for your stepchild or children? Hi, I’m Clint Hastings. I’m a Tulsa divorce attorney here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I focus on father’s rights. The answer to that question is no, you do not get credit for giving money for your stepchildren. In fact, it’s considered just a gift.
If you want credit for it, you need to have some sort of order that gives money that you would give for that to be credited to you in some way for alimony, for property division, or somehow, sometimes you can come up to agreements where it could give you, by agreement, a credit towards your child support. But that’s not what a judge is going to say. A judge is going to just say it’s a gift.
