What to Expect When Budgeting for a Parenting Coordinator
Hi, my name is Clint Hastings. I’m an attorney in Tulsa, Oklahoma, focusing on fathers’ rights. This is another video in my series about parenting coordinators and how we’re using them in your case potentially. This video is about how much a parenting coordinator costs, the total cost expected, what is an expected retainer, and what hourly rates can I expect.
Well, it varies somewhat. As you can imagine, just like with attorneys, parenting coordinators can charge different rates. Typically, though, they’re going to fall within $1,500 to maybe $3,000 is the range for a retainer. The fee cost per hour, the rate per hour, will be between, I’d say, $125 and $200. On the average, you might find some that are $250. Again, you’re splitting that rate and retainer as we talked about in the last video. But those are the general rates.
Factors Affecting the Total Cost
Now, as far as total cost, well, of course, that’s unpredictable. It depends on how much is used, how much time is used of the parenting coordinator. Again, we talked about in the last video about what happens if one party overuses and the cost may be added on their side. But in general, the hope is that within $1,500 and $3,000, let’s say, that type of cost and time, that the parenting coordinator will have implemented a good, solid foundation between the parties.
You’ve had some meetings. You’ve figured out basics of how you’re going to communicate, how the PC is going to monitor it, what type of issues might be recurring. Things like that should be kind of decided. And then hopefully you’re just using it as an as-needed maintenance type of situation where you’re calling up just, hey, you know our case. Here’s a little issue we have about visitation this Friday. Could you help us work this out?
